Alfonse Anderson (Music) was the first recipient of the Dr. Bert Babero Sr. Faculty/Staff Award, which was given out at the first Inaugural Black Carpet, the main event for Black History Month. This event was hosted by Student Diversity and Social Justice to celebrate Black Excellence, Black Love, and Black Joy. Babero, an internationally known parasitologist, was the first black faculty member at ºÚÁÏÍø. He was also a member of the State Equal Rights Commission and advocated against complacency and lack of action in job discrimination and civil rights. The Dr. Bert Babero Sr. Faculty/Staff Award is designed to recognize any faculty or staff member at ºÚÁÏÍø who has a record of serving black students at ºÚÁÏÍø. This service can be through research, teaching, mentorship, advising, etc.
