Valentine’s Day may be over, but sharing sweets continues on campus.
In the spirit of Rebel Random Acts of Kindness month (#RebelRAK), at The Cosmopolitan descended upon on Feb. 22 to share baskets upon baskets of cookies with students, faculty, and well… anyone with a hankering for a cookie. Milk Bar opened last month in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
But how did end up as the target for this carefully orchestrated cookie bomb? It was a no-brainer, said Harrah Hotel College student and Milk Bar pastry sous chef Casey Shea. “The Milk Bar team wanted to get more acquainted with the Las Vegas area, so we decided that was a great place to do it,” said Shea, who helped organize the Milk Bar booth on campus and arrange for the cookie delivery.
As a former employee at Milk Bar’s New York location, Shea was excited to learn that a shop was opening up in town. “I transferred to to finish my bachelor’s degree,” she said, “and when I heard Milk Bar was coming to Vegas, I jumped at the opportunity to join the team again.”
Shea’s influence in selecting was a definite factor, but having numerous alumni in upper management positions — like The Cosmopolitan President Bill McBeath, ’86 BS Hotel Administration, and Colleen Birch, ’99 BS Hotel Administration, senior vice president — certainly didn’t hurt. She made the cookie bomb happen after quick phone call with Harrah Hotel College Dean Stowe Shoemaker.
“We thought it would be fun for the campus community but also a great opportunity for Milk Bar to engage with ,” said Birch.
Hundreds of cookie-bombed students and staff agree.
