The will roll out a redesigned website Tuesday, Jan. 14, providing an updated experience and increasing accessibility to services offered online through the website.
“ students and faculty were the central focus of the new design of our website,” said Maggie Farrell, dean of University Libraries. “The new look better emphasizes the needs of our users and gives the site a more modern look that visitors will find appealing as they search for resources.”
The last major revision of the University Libraries website took place in 2011.
“We took a user-focused approach in designing the site to bring the most popular services and materials to top-level pages and make them easier to locate,” said Michael Yunkin, head of web and application development services in the Libraries. “Through accessibility and usability testing, we have found that the redesign assists users in more quickly locating the resources they want on the site.”
Under the direction of Yunkin, the web and application development services team partnered with a committee of stakeholders from across the Libraries in a year-long planning and development process. The resulting site complements ’s branding, while also creating an updated experience for online users.
Quick Search, the catalog/platform enabling users to search across a multitude of print and electronic resources, was redesigned in 2018 when the University Libraries transitioned to the Ex Libris libraries services platform. While this underlying 2018 platform is not changing, library users will have greater flexibility when conducting their initial Quick Search from the libraries' website.
After the initial rollout, the Libraries’ web and application development services team will continue to evaluate and make improvements to the site, as well as continually update content to ensure the most up-to-date information is available to users.
