Testing and Placement
Placement Tests
Current ºÚÁÏÍø international and multilingual students who do not have official language test scores and need to enroll in a first-year composition course (ENG 113E; ENG 113F; ENG 113) are encouraged to complete the Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency (MTELP)-Writing. This in-person placement test will allow students to demonstrate their English writing abilities and will be used to determine the appropriate placement in ENG 113E/F or ENG 113.
For students who plan to enroll in the Intensive English Program, official language scores are not required, but assessment and placement take place during the first week of classes.

Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency (MTELP)
Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency Writing (MTELP Writing) is offered regularly for those students who want to enroll in ENG 113 or ENG 113 E/F at ºÚÁÏÍø. This test provides information about a student's proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, and writing. It is available to current ºÚÁÏÍø students who do not have test scores and would like to enroll in an English composition course for international and multilingual students.
Scores on the paper-based MTELP range from 0 to 50.
