Simon Gottschalk (Sociology) authored an article titled "In Praise of Doing Nothing" for the academic blog The Conversation about the need to decelerate the pace of everyday life.
Ben Van Alstyne, Alexx Martinez, and Michelle Bosinger-Shannon (all Anthropology) recently completed a virtual reality online exhibit for the Lost City Museum. This exhibit showcases 30 three-dimensional, interactive models of artifacts. Van Alstyne is a doctoral student, while Martinez and Bosinger-Shannon are undergraduates.
Ranita Ray (Sociology) is the author of the book The Making of a Teenage Service Class, which was cited in The Atlantic in a piece titled "Why Rich Kids Are So Good at the Marshmallow Test."
Jing Nong Liang (Physical Therapy) and Jefferson Kinney (Psychology) received a Faculty Opportunity Award in the collaborative interdisciplinary research category for their study 鈥淢odifying the Spinal Circuitry to Improve Walking and BDNF Expression in Individuals Post-Stroke.鈥 Liang also received a School of Allied Health Sciences Summer Research鈥
G茅rard Beck (Word Languages and Cultures) organized and coordinated a week-long professional workshop at 黑料网 in May in partnership with the French Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Chamber of Commerce in Paris. Designed to develop courses and official certifications in French for business and tourism, this workshop welcomed 20 professors from鈥
Sheila Bock (Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies) published "Body, Neuro-Diverse, and Ability-Centered Identities" in The Oxford Handbook of American Folklore and Folklife Studies, which is available on Oxford Handbooks Online.
Bo Bernhard (International Gaming Institute) recently delivered two keynote addresses in Macau, China. The first keynote was for the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA) Summit and focused on the impacts of the integrated resort on society and the economy. The second, for the Asia Lottery Forum, presented a global analysis鈥

The Department of World Languages & Cultures hosted the joint 2018 annual conference of the Medieval Association of the Pacific (MAP) and the Rocky Mountain Medieval and Renaissance Association (RMMRA) earlier this month.
