Amanda Melilli (Libraries) has been named chair of the American Library Association's 2023 Rainbow Booklist committee, charged with creating a national booklist of the best LGBTQIA+ books for young people. She is head of the Teacher Development & Resources Library.
Jennifer Vanderlaan (Nursing) has been tasked to lead the newly announced Johnson & Johnson Midwifery Workforce Study. Vanderlaan and others will explore ways to improve access and integration of midwives in the U.S. This study is made possible by Johnson & Johnson, which awarded two grants to the American College of鈥
Amy Tureen (Libraries) is the author of a chapter, "Transitioning from Passive to Active Diversity Recruitment Strategies: A Case Study," published in the book, Implementing Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Handbook for Academic Libraries.
Toni Repetti (Hospitality) and Susan Roe of San Francisco State University were invited guests on the "Restaurant Relevance" podcast to discuss their paper 鈥淢inimum Wage Change Effects on Restaurant Pricing and Employment鈥 and how the results are applicable in today鈥檚 restaurant employment environment. Kavita Batra (Medicine), along with researchers from Saudi Arabia and India, published an article, "Literature Review of Omicron: A Grim Reality Amidst COVID-19," in the journal "Microorganisms."
Camisha Fagan (Sociology) was awarded the Sankofa Advocate Scholarship by the office of student diversity & social justice. The scholarship recognizes students who utilize their knowledge to contribute to the liberation of historically marginalized identities.
Dr. Sadaf Fakhra (Medicine) was accepted into the American College of Cardiology IM Women in Cardiology program. She will be the resident advocate in Nevada for other female residents interested in cardiology, and will promote and foster that interest. Patricia A. Heisser Metoyer (Psychology, Interdisciplinary, English), before International Women鈥檚 Day on March 8, was selected as a formal delegate to the United Nations Women CSW66 on March 31. UN Women, NGO participants, including the UNA-USA delegation, will identify global strategies to address gender gaps primarily due to discriminatory鈥
Krystal Kittle (Public Health) received notice of a three-year Alzheimer's Association Research Fellowship award for $175,000. Jason Flatt (Social & Behavioral Health) and Sheniz Moonie (Epidemiology & Biostatistics) serve as her mentor and co-mentor on the grant. Jennifer Vanderlaan (Nursing) and Jay Shen (Public Health) co-authored a new publication, "Sociodemographic Disparities in Utilization of Childbirth Education," in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. Co-authors include former 黑料网 professor Tricia Gatlin.
Dustin Hines, April Contreras, Betsua Garcia, Jeffrey Barker, and Rochelle Hines (all Psychology), all part of The Hines Group, published a manuscript in Molecular Psychiatry along with collaborators from Boston Children's Hospital and Tufts University School of Medicine. Manoj Sharma, Christopher Johansen, Siddharth Raich (all Social and Behavioral Health), and Kavita Batra (Medicine) have published a manuscript, "Explaining Correlates of Cervical Cancer Screening among Minority Women in the United States" in the journal Pharmacy.
